He is the head of Aerie House and is father to twins Micah Bayar and Fiona Bayar, as well as Hayden Fire Dancer. When Dancer, Willo, and Han hatched a plan to expose Gavan, Dancer commented he would probably kill all of them.  When the three confronted Bayar, Gavan accused Willo of witch craft, and claimed she seduced him.  Gavan was killed while chasing Han. When Han entered the room full of flesh eating songbirds, Gavan woke the birds, and they sung, and then attacked him, eventually killing him.

Appearance[]

He has a mane of silver hair, streaked with wizard red. He has a rum street face, and a crocodile smile. He has arrogant planes to his face, and a cruel slant to his mouth. He is tall and pale with glacial blue eyes under heavy dark brows and is darkly handsome. He has a scar on his hand from when Willo slashed his hand.

Personality[]

He is arrogant, thinking himself and his family royalty among wizards, and desires them to sit on the the throne, thinking wizards should rule the Fells as kings. He is vicious and cold-blooded, being harsh on his children and ruthless in the destruction of his enemies, not even caring when his daughter was killed. When confronted publicly, he tries to discredit his opponent by showing doubt, disbelief, and contempt. He reacted this way both when confronted by Raisa at Marianna's funeral, and by Willo at a Wizard Council meeting. He is usually articulate, with a seductive voice. He finds incompetence difficult to forgive, in anyone, including his children.

Involvement[]

Early Life[]

Before he was made High Wizard, he trespassed on Hanalea Mountain and r*ped Willo Watersong by pretending to be a trader and using an enchanted ring to subdue her. He tried to kill her afterwards but was run off by the Demonai, leaving the ring behind when Willo cut his hand.

High Wizard[]

He was one of the most rigorous enforcers of the ban on congress between wizards and the Spirit clans, and severely disciplined wizards for breaking this rule.

The Demon King[]

He is part of the hunting party of Queen Marianna, and helps save them from wizard fire. He enthralls Marianna and persuades her to wed Raisa and his son Micah. He provided Micah with an enchanted token that would be given to Raisa, making her more pliable.

The Exiled Queen[]

He sends assassins after Raisa while she is at Wien House. He convinces Marianna to make Mellony the heir, intending to marry her to Micah.

The Grey Wolf Throne[]

He planned to coronate Mellony if Raisa was not present at her mother's funeral. He believed she was dead, by his assassins or King Gerard.

The Crimson Crown[]

He sets fire to Ragmarket without Raisa's permission, under the guide that theu were responsible for the rash of murdered wizards. He tries to get Micah to both court Raisa and be appointed the next High Wizard. He is replaced as High Wizard by Alister, and then disgraced in front of his peers when Willo reveals the crime he committed against her, and the existence of his son, Dancer. He kidnaps Alister and tortures him in an attempt to make him reveal the location of the Armory of the Gifted Kings. He and Fiona make Alister take them to it, and he is killed by deadly songbirds when Alister led him to the room they were sleeping in.
